In America, the early performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. It was no surprise for a girl who was of Irish descent, who grew within a talented family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin the capital of Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the second child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this amazing family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and loved playing athletic games. Her ability to perform was a perfect complement to her passion for sport. In the end, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. The Abbey Theater was her first choice. Abbey Theater by age 14 as she was able to fulfill her goals of opera and classical singing and theater.
